Watering, It’s Complicated or Is It?

Greetings y’all!

I’ve been out in this heat all day long and I am thirsty! So are your trees!

The basic watering guideline is very simple. Your mature trees generally need one good soaking watering per month year round if we haven’t gotten a good soaking rain during the month. But what about different species? What about young trees?

Recently, I provided consultations for a couple of clients that had each planted over two dozen trees on their property. When we started discussing watering guidelines for a wide variety of trees located in different soil types, with differing degrees of slope, different proximity to other water sources, and soil moisture monitoring methods, something became clear to me, irrigation can be a very complicated subject.

After meeting with my clients, I posted a question to the American Society of Consulting Arborists discussion group. I was impressed by the amazing depth of suggestions and differing opinions on strategies posted. Again I realized “Watering can be complicated.” I felt lucky when my good friend Matt Stamm of Cougar Irrigation gave me a 40 minute class on irrigation. My conclusion: wow this is complicated!

Here’s the punch line. Sometimes issues with trees can be simple and straightforward. Other times it requires research, experience, and resources in order to find answers. I know where to look for answers. Whether or not you have a complicated or a simple tree issue, I can often help. Contact me. If I don’t have an answer for you, I usually have a contact or resource that does!

It’s as easy as that! Contact me.
